“One of the skills that Tim displays in the group – a skill that contributes to the quality of the connections between the members – is his ability to be simultaneously the one who holds the space and to be a member within the space. He can achieve this because he has a very light, non-controlling “touch.” Also because he simply enjoys being there.
All such group circles have their own special quality. Tim’s circle has a lightness of being present which reflects Tim’s way of being.
It is simple.
The members of the group, gathered in a circle, generate the quality of the space by their commitment to being self-aware and reflecting that awareness by showing who they are; what they are feeling; by looking inwards to see themselves; to see what is beautiful and what there might be that is not beautiful.
There may even be ugliness.
In that space, it would always be safe to reveal ugliness (should there be any) because the honesty of showing dissolves negativity.
It need not linger.
There is no judgement.
As the spirit of the time together progresses, personalities fade into ways of being present; conversations fade into ways of connecting; individual egos lose their sharpness as the tribal unity strengthens.
This unity is not exclusive because it is not held by cultural habit.
It is simply an expression of being. It is inclusive….. all very simple.
Out of simplicity comes a glimpse of the infinite.” Jean-Jacques
